Trading the Known for the Unknown(s)

Okay another post about the Cav's. How do I even think of stuff to talk about this team.. I don't know.. But here I go.

All over sports talk radio and Twitter I hear one thing. Andy is our best trade asset. They are right, he is. But that doesn't mean you trade him. LeBron James was our best trade asset and we wouldn't trade him. (yes, I know we technically did) Yes, I know that'snot an unfair comparison. The Cav's have been unable to find a 'diamond' in the rough. Let's take a peek at the past 10 years of the Cav's draft history

2009 1 30 Christian Eyenga ON TEAM CURRENTLY
2009 2 46 Danny Green NO LONGER WITH TEAM
2008 1 19 J. J. Hickson ON TEAM CURRENTLY
2006 1 25 Shannon Brown NO LONGER WITH TEAM
2006 2 42 Daniel Gibson ON TEAM CURRENTLY
2006 2 55 Ejike Ugboaja WHO?
2004 1 10 Luke Jackson NO LONGER WITH TEAM
2003 1 1 LeBron James NO LONGER WITH TEAM
2003 2 31 Jason Kapono NO LONGER WITH TEAM
2002 1 6 Dajuan Wagner NO LONGER WITH TEAM
2002 2 34 Carlos Boozer NO LONGER WITH TEAM
2001 1 8 DeSagana Diop NOW LONGER WITH TEAM. AND WHY?
2001 1 20 Brendan Haywood NO LONGER WITH TEAM
2001 2 35 Jeff Trepagnier REALLY? NO LONGER WITH TEAM
2000 1 7 Jamal Crawford I'D LIKE TO HAVE HIM NOW
1999 1 8 Andre Miller NO LONGER WITH TEAM

SO OVER THE PAST 10+ YEARS. The Cav's have 3 players who are still currently on the. 1 who is basically only on the current roster because of record and injury's.

In short. I have little to NO FAITH that the Cav's will be able to make the RIGHT pick without having the first pick ya dig?

God Bless Cleveland....... Please?

The REAL needs of the Cav's

The title of this could be laughable and I can see why. With the Cav's season well underway, we are all painfully aware of one thing. We need help! Bad! For most of us the season can't go by fast enough and won't go by fast enough. I can't argue you with at all. It is hard to find reasons to watch the team, but I do it anyway.

With that being said, the NBA trade deadline is about 40 days away. So to go back to title of this blog. What are the REAL needs of the Cav's? Jesus you say? Well that would be a help with our outside shooting, but he's weak defensively. Everyone is quick to point to getting Kyrie Irving the point guard from Duke. Now it's hard to argue with picking a young talent like Irving, but I am going to try!

If you look at the best Point Guards in the league and these are in no particular order.

Muggsy Bogues.. sorry had too. one of my all-time fav's

These players to me, are far and away the top pg's in the league. But what separates those elite players? My answer, better play from the 2 and 3 spot.

Rajon Rondo:
Rondo knows that he doesn't have to take over a game. He just needs to play smart and kick to either Pierce or Shuttlesworth errr Allen. Both who average around 20 ppg.

Derek Rose:
Rose, who I believe is the best offensive point guard in the league. Doesn't need 2 guys scoring 20 points per game, but Rose has Deng (SF) who averages 17 points per game.

How about Russel Westbrook?
Westbrook has a top 5 player in Kevin Durant, who has been averaging around 30/ppg this season.. again.

Chris Paul:
Paul is the 2nd leading scorer on his team behind David West (PF). His guards are Trever Ariza at 10ppg and Marco Belinelli again at 10ppg. (both below average guards in my book)

Tony Parker:
Mrs Longoria (what the heck was he thinking) has one of the craftiest plays in Manu Ginobili who is around that 20ppg mark.

Steve Nash:
Nash has it a little harder because his surrounding players have changed dramatically over the past year. But J.Rich was an almost 20ppg and V.Carter is a 18ppg and the ageless wonder Mr. Sprite himself Grant Hill is averaging 15ppg this season.

Stephen Curry
The sharp shooter has one of the leagues top scorers in Monta "Scooter" Ellis at 25ppg.

Deron Williams:
Mr. Williams has AK-47 at 11ppg, Cj Miles at 12ppg. ehh and ehh^squared

So what do we need? Sure a top point guard is hard to come by. But no on expected anything from Rajon Rondo, but when your team has above average players at the Shooting Guard and Small Forward positions their stats will fill themselves.

The Cav's have been rumored to be going after Gerald Wallace and all I have heard is why? He's old blah blah blah. But really, why not? I know we all want a BIG name player to come here but lets face the music. No big name player will want to come here and be on a team that is going to finish with the worst record in the league potentially two years in a row.

I am for the trade of a player like Gerald Wallace. He is a above average scorer at 18ppg on an average team. Most importantly he is under contract for 2 more seasons. How does this help the Cav's you might be wondering.

Well I believe this would allow some great flexibility for the Cav's during the draft. By getting Wallace the Cav's would have the SF position filled up for at least 2 seasons. Obviously I know he is a 30ppg scorer, but thats not what I am looking for. I want a player who can get you that 20ppg average (see above stats from other ELITE guards).

If the Cav's are lucky enough to get Kyrie Iriving with the top pick, Wallace provides and instant player for Irving to play with. If that were to happen, I would be more than willing to bet that Wallace's ppg average would more 20+ppg. Now, if the ping-pong balls don't bounce the Cav's way, they at least know they don't have to worry about the 3 spot for the next two seasons and can go after the best available player at any position.

Now I am not saying Gerald Wallace is the only player the Cav's need to look at , but a player under contract that we are not using for 1 season to burn cap space, and a scorer in the 20ppg vicinity along with a above average point guard could be just what the Cav's are looking for...

God Bless Cleveland....... Please?

(just so you don't think I am crazy, I believe that CP3 and Deron Williams are great, but the guard play around them ISN'T and thats why they have ZERO chance of winning an NBA title this season. But their play is good enough to get them to the playoffs, but they are missing one KEY item!)
